Usability and Accessibility
Malauzai was founded in 2009 to take advantage of the boom in mobile banking. Its flexible white-label platform and proprietary content management system gave small financial institutions a fully featured, competitive app for their users.
I joined as the sole UX designer, tasked with improving the usability and accessibility of the white-label framework. I introduced generative and evaluative research, made accessibility a core pillar of the product, and put rigorous design processes in place to improve consistency and scalability.
Outcomes
- ✱AA accessibility conformance across the white-label platform
- ✱Introduced research, usability, and design system best practices
Growing the Team
The platform's client base grew from 190 financial institutions in 2014 to over 400 by 2018, driven by sales, product, and engineering. My role grew to Manager of UX Engineering, and as the product matured I grew the design team around skill gaps and business needs. Our responsibilities expanded to feature work on Malauzai's CMS, including code management and production support for design changes in the framework.
Outcomes
- ✱100% team retention during my 4+ years leading design
Admin Portal
My team was instrumental in building Malauzai's first admin portal, which let partners create dynamic ad campaigns and monitor real-time integrations.
Acquisition
My team's work improving the digital product experience and putting best practices in place was a significant consideration in Finastra's acquisition of Malauzai in early 2018.
